Academy visits Chivas USA practice and the University of Southern California on June 19, 2009

Jun 22nd, 2009 by admin | 0

On June 19, 2009 a group of about 50 academy players and families along with players from the Bakersfield Alliance had the opportunity to attend a Chivas USA practice in the morning and in the afternoon had the priviledge to have USC Trojan Women Soccer coach, Ali Khosroshahin talked to them about the Trojan women soccer program college recruitment in general and education.

The Chivas USA practice started at 10am and finished up about 11:30am.  Players and their families had the opportunity to witness the intensity of a full professional soccer practice.   At the conclusion of the practice Chivas USA players came over and gave autographs to all the academy members.   Notable Chivas USA players at the practices where: Claudio Suarez, Eduardo Lilingston, Mariano Trujillo, Maykel Galindo, Jesse March, Zack Thornton, Ante Razov, Paulo Nagamura and Alecko Eskandrian.

The next stop after witnessing the Chivas USA practice was the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles.   After a quick tour of the campus players and families were escorted to Heritage Hall in the center of campus and where they would be treated to a one hour workshop about soccer scholarships, college recruitment, college soccer by USC with Trojan Women soccer coach, Ali Khosroshahin.  There coach Ali K talked and answered questions related to college soccer.  Having one of the top women college soccer coaches in the states, talked to them and answer questions for many of our members was once in a lifetime opportunity.

On behalf of the South Valley Chivas Academy administration we would like to take the time to thank Chivas USA staff Jose Arce, Julio Cano and especially Luis Gaitan for being with our group throughout our visit to the Home Depot Center.  Special thanks for coach Ali K for taking the time of his busy schedule to talk to our players and enlighten them to aspire to play at the college level one day.

 Thank you!!

Best of luck to Oscar, Cornelio, Antonio and Alexis!

The Lost of a friend, player and fellow academy member

Jan 16th, 2009 by admin | 0
On Saturday, January 10, 2009, our Chivas Academy lost one of our friend, player and fellow academy member to a tragic traffic accident.Sergio Jr. Anthony Tapia was a member of the South Valley Chivas U18 team and had been a member of the team for a little more than a year. serio2.jpg
To his coaches, he was a very respectable young man who could always be counted on to show up to play and would always give us 100% on the soccer field. One of his many virtues was being able to score those impossible last minute goals which would always win us games. South Valley Chivas Academy will never forget Sergio and he will always remain in our hearts and in our thoughts.

Let Sergio’s life not be in vain and help it be an example for everyone specially all the youth. Our lives is like a blink of an eye. To all the parents please take the time to listen to your children and more importantly understand them. Try to keep them busy in positive things having to do with education and sports so that one day they will not go looking elsewhere but in their own homes for what could be missing in their lives.

Sergio will truly be missed by all of our academy and those whose lives he touched.

Please, let us all keep the Tapia family in our prayers in these very difficult times.

Gilbert Hernandez, Director, South Valley Chivas Academy
